Announcing The Talking Shelf Space Patreon

Well, I’ve been thinking about starting a Patreon as a sort of free newsletter for a while now and as always, it took a kind reader to push me over the edge 😀 patreon.com/TalkingShelfSpace

As you might or might not know, I write about board games as a hobby with no intention to make money off it. I have a day job that I like very much and that provides me with enough of disposable income to finance this hobby. Board gaming is a niche, and writing about them is a niche inside a niche. I’ve talked with enough highly successful board games designers to know how little money there is to be made in board gaming and so I’m under no illusion of ever being able to sustain myself by writing about games. But that might also be a good thing: I buy my own games, I’m not forced to write about games I don’t enjoy, and if life gets busy, I can just stop dropping content for a while because I’m beholden to none.

All of this is to say: please don’t expect too much of this Patreon. I’ll try to keep things updated as best as I can and we’ll see how it goes from there. If you want to support what I’m doing, just subscribe, comment, thumbs up, or share the content I create, on BGG, instagram, or my own site, no money needed. Showing designers and publishers that I have an audience allows me to convince more and more of them to agree to interviews or slip me an interesting prototype from time to time. And that will result in even better content for you to enjoy! 😀

Cheers

Alex
